Camp Discovery Day
An event for youth with special needs to come out and enjoy Scouting for a day!
Is your child adventurous? Do they love the outdoors? Do you want them to experience the fun and friendship of Scouting? Having a disability does not mean youth cannot join and experience all the benefits of Scouting.
Spend the day with a Boy Scout Buddy at Camp Discovery Day! This event is open to boys and girls of all ages and all ability levels. Participants are required to have a parent or caregiver at camp. Siblings are welcome and encouraged to participate.
When: Saturday, May 13, 2017
Time: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm (This is an open event. Please come anytime)
Where: Camp Lazarus, 4422 Columbus Pike, Delaware, OH 43015
Registration fee: $5 for each participant*
*Lunch and patch included
Are you an organization that serves youth with special needs?
We would like to invite your organization and those you serve to experience Scouting! Participants will spend the day with a registered Boy Scout learning how to fish, pitch a tent, shoot archery, and everything that Scouts do!
Participants are required to have either a parent, guardian, or caregiver with them. Groups with chaperones that have signed permission slips are allowed to participate. We also welcome and
encourage siblings to participate.

We are looking for Scout Buddies and Scout volunteers!
Wouldn’t it be neat if every young person attending has a Boy Scout mentor/buddy who would stay with them all day? We want to give every youth with special needs attending memories to last a lifetime!
If you are a Boy Scout* or Venturer and would like to be a mentor/buddy for the day, please sign up here. Only with your help can we make this day special for some very special youth!
* must be 13 or 1st Class
We are also looking for volunteers to help run stations. These volunteers can be Scout youth or Adult Scouters.
There is a cost to volunteer. Each volunteer is $15 and will receive breakfast and lunch that day and a patch.
Friday Night before the event
On Friday, May 12, 2017, at Camp Lazarus, the event committee will be hosting a Disabilities Awareness Workshop. This workshop will work on components of the Disabilities Awareness Merit Badge and will also prepare the youth to work with children with special needs. Scouts will learn the challenges of living with a disability, learn about different types of disabilities, and will also be able to do hands-on demonstrations to understand what it is like living with certain disabilities. Please check the box for the Disabilities Awareness Merit Badge when registering as a volunteer.
*This portion of the event is optional for youth volunteers
