The road to Eagle Scout changed the life of Haden Fulkerson and now he’s using his experiences to help others on their path to Eagle.
Haden, who has been a Scout since first grade, chose to document the process of working through his Eagle project and the information he collected transformed into something more.
“I didn’t know what medium the project would take…I thought I might turn it into a documentary. Once I started writing my story, I quickly realized the form of a book was what I wanted to shoot for…because it would be something to help [others] with their projects and Scouting journey as a whole,” said Haden.
The process for writing “SOAR, An Eagle Scout’s Guide to Advancement and Leadership,” began in November of 2019 and took around six months. Initially, Haden planned to explain what he learned during his Eagle project, but he soon expanded and wrote about other topics like serving your community, practicing leadership, and High Adventure.
“The point of SOAR is to prove to Scouts that the rank of Eagle is attainable. My life has changed for the better since I became an Eagle Scout. I believe that every Scout is capable of earning [the rank of Eagle], and for the betterment of our world, they need to.”
