COVID-19 Safety Guidelines Update

Updated COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

With the state of Ohio’s recently updated personal safety guidelines, the following changes become effective immediately for all Simon Kenton Council programs and properties:

Guiding Principles

  • We fully support the right for every individual to ensure their own safety and well-being. A person may wear a mask and take additional safety precautions at any time if they prefer to do so.
  • While national, state, and local guidance is generally provided, our chartered organizations may dictate more stringent practices and procedures/guidelines for personal safety. Units must operate within the chartered organization’s requirements.

Facial Coverings

Individuals who are fully vaccinated (i.e., those 2 weeks following receipt of either the second dose of a 2-dose series or one dose of a single-dose series per the CDC Public Health Recommendations for Vaccinated Persons) can participate in meetings and activities without wearing a mask.  It is requested that those not vaccinated continue to wear masks indoors and outdoors when social distancing is not an option.   While it is highly recommended that individuals become vaccinated, Simon Kenton Council will not seek any documentation from groups or individuals regarding their vaccination status.

Congregating and Social Distancing

Group size is no longer limited for vaccinated individuals.  Those not vaccinated are recommended to socially distance and are requested to wear a mask.

Regarding SKC Camps, Offices and guidance for unit meetings, activities and campouts:

  • All SKC facilities request facial coverings for non-vaccinated people or youth 12 years old and younger.
  • Meals usually served in the dining hall will be served in 2 shifts to accommodate social distancing and to avoid crowding.
  • Camp program areas will provide instruction and activities using social distancing where appropriate and possible.
  • In resident camp, Scouts may share a tent but are encouraged to sleep “head to toe” and provide ventilation when possible. Separate accommodations may be requested and will be honored to the extent that resources permit.  Scouts have been encouraged to bring their own tent.
  • In camp cabins, non-vaccinated people are requested to wear a mask, except when sleeping. “Head to toe” sleeping to be used by everyone in cabins.
  • In-person meetings for council, district and unit committees may begin to take place, with a virtual (zoom, etc.) option where possible.

We are committed to follow policies outlined by state and local health departments and will update these safety guidelines as needed to keep our Scouts and families safe and comply with these policies.
