About ScoutReach

ScoutReach is Simon Kenton Council’s commitment to ensuring that every youth can experience the magic of Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or economic background.

Scouting America is more than building campfires and earning merit badges—it’s a supportive environment where youth can thrive while creating memories and friendships that last a lifetime. Through ScoutReach, we bring these life-changing opportunities to traditionally underserved communities across our 19 counties in Central and Southern Ohio, and Northern Kentucky.

ScoutReach breaks down barriers to participation by:

  • Reducing or eliminating membership fees
  • Providing uniforms and program materials
  • Offering transportation assistance
  • Bringing Scouting programs directly to neighborhoods
  • Creating culturally relevant programming

We believe that financial barriers should not prohibit any youth from participating in Scouting and the friendships, skills, and confidence it builds.

Our Impact

ScoutReach is creating spaces where kids can be kids while developing the skills they need to become contributing members of society and the workforce

Programs and Activities

In-School Programs

We bring Scouting directly to youth through partnerships with schools in underserved communities. Our program specialists visit during lunch periods and after school, making participation accessible for all families.

Youth-Led Adventures

ScoutReach programs are youth-led, where participants take the reins in planning, decision-making, and problem-solving. Our volunteer leaders serve as mentors and coaches, helping Scouts set and achieve goals while building independence and resilience.

Camp Experiences

We offer opportunities for ScoutReach youth to attend day camps and other outdoor programs. By covering costs and sometimes providing transportation, we ensure all Scouts can enjoy STEM activities, outdoor adventures, and the fun of Scout camp.

Cub Scout Focus

Our primary focus is on Cub Scouts (ages 5-10), providing younger children with formative experiences that build character, teach teamwork, and develop leadership skills from an early age.

Community Partnerships

We work with local organizations to meet youth where they are and provide enriching Scouting experiences that complement existing community programs and resources.

Safe, Inclusive Environment

We prioritize safety through rigorous background checks and youth protection training. Every Scout feels valued and respected in an environment where they can take risks, learn, and grow with support.

Corporate sponsorships and matching gift programs are also available, contact Andy Kall for more information. All contributions to ScoutReach are tax-deductible.

Volunteer with ScoutReach

ScoutReach depends on volunteers from all backgrounds who want to make a difference. Our members, staff and volunteers come from urban, rural and suburban communities—and it’s our diverse backgrounds that unite us, ensuring we all learn from each other’s unique experiences and perspectives.

Volunteers can help in various ways:

  • Unit Assistants (helping during in-school ScoutReach programs)
  • Event Support Staff (especially for our days at camp)
  • Program Specialists (sharing skills during special activities)

Most of our ScoutReach programs take place during school hours, particularly during lunch periods. All volunteers must be registered with Scouting America and complete Youth Protection Training. Safety is our top priority—we conduct rigorous background checks on all volunteers to create a secure environment for our Scouts.

Even if you can only volunteer occasionally for special events, your time makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our ScoutReach youth!
