An Update on Our Ongoing Collaboration with Muskingum Valley Council
A joint update from the Muskingum Valley Council and Simon Kenton Council.
As our due diligence conversations with the Muskingum Valley Council (MVC) continue, we want to share an important update. Beginning in August, MVC will operate under a transitional charter with Scouting America, a designation used when a council’s future structure is under review.
What This Means
Scouting programs and unit activities in the Muskingum Valley Council continue as normal under this designation. A transitional charter simply reflects that Scouting America and MVC are working through what the council’s structure looks like going forward, and the most likely path is a merger – potentially with Simon Kenton Council or another neighboring council.
No decision has been made, but our desired outcome is clear – to support and grow Scouting’s mission in service to youth, volunteers and communities across both council areas. SKC and MVC have been engaged in a collaborative due diligence process since earlier this year to evaluate whether a merger between our two councils makes sense, and we remain committed to that work together.
MVC’s board held a special meeting Monday night to discuss this development and the path ahead.
What’s Next
- Joint SKC-MVC due diligence committees – Program, Culture, Properties, Finance, and Governance – will continue their work, with the next round of committee meetings scheduled for Monday, July 13.
- SKC and MVC will continue to communicate openly with boards, staff, chartered organizations, volunteers, and families as this process moves forward.
We know this update may raise questions, and we’re committed to keeping our Scouting community informed every step of the way. Additional detail on our due diligence process to date is available in our earlier update.
If you have questions, please contact the Simon Kenton Council office at 614-436-7200 or skcquestions@scouting.org.
Thank you for your continued support of Scouting. We remain focused on one goal: delivering the best possible Scouting experience for youth across our region, now and after this process concludes.
