More Than 1,000 Scouts and Families Turn Out for a Successful 2026 Shoot-O-Ree
Shoot-O-Ree Recap
More than 1,000 Scouts, family members, and volunteers gathered at Camp Lazarus on Saturday, September 26, for the 2026 Simon Kenton Council SHOOT-O-REE, making this year’s event an outstanding success.
From the moment the ranges opened, camp was filled with excitement, encouragement, and plenty of smiles. For many Cub Scouts, SHOOT-O-REE offeed the chance to experience that unforgettable moment when they hit a target for the first time. That look of surprise quickly became, “Let me do that again.”
Throughout the day, Scouts had the opportunity to take part in BB guns, archery, and slingshots, with experienced instructors helping youth learn new skills in a safe and supportive environment. The fun extended well beyond the ranges, with mini golf, leatherwork, Western-themed crafts, games, and other activities taking place across camp.
SHOOT-O-REE also gave Cub Scouts the opportunity to work toward shooting sports Adventure loops and pins that can only be earned at approved Scouting events. For many Scouts, the day was about more than hitting a target. It was an opportunity to try something new, build confidence, spend time outdoors, and create memories with family and friends.
One of the highlights of SHOOT-O-REE is the way it brings the Scouting community together. Families attended on their own, dens came together, and packs made a full day or weekend out of their visit to Camp Lazarus. No matter how they arrived, everyone became part of a shared day of adventure and Scouting fellowship.
An event of this size would not be possible without the dedication of many people.
Thank You to All Who Made This Such a Special Day
Thank you to every Scout who came ready to try something new, every parent and family member who supported their Scout throughout the day, and every volunteer who gave their time and talents to make SHOOT-O-REE possible.
From the instructors who safely operated the ranges to the volunteers leading activities, helping families find their way around camp, preparing facilities, and working behind the scenes, your efforts created an incredible experience for more than 1,000 members of our Scouting community.
Most importantly, SHOOT-O-REE demonstrated what Scouting does so well. It gives young people opportunities to challenge themselves, learn new skills, build confidence, and have fun alongside caring adults and friends.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Camp Lazarus and helped make the 2026 SHOOT-O-REE such a memorable day.
We look forward to seeing you back at camp for another adventure soon!
